I commented a while back about the relative shortage of interesting websites from Scotland (at least compared with Wales). I now have to eat at least some of my words. A new Scottish ‘online newspaper’ started today, written mostly by ex-Scotsman journalists. It’s called the Caledonian Mercury, and can be found HERE. Some background is available here.
The best of luck to the new venture. It’s sad that Scotland’s printed papers have deteriorated as much as they have, just at the time good papers are needed. There’s a gap to be filled. The growth of the internet is of course a significant part of the financial pressures that have squeezed good print journalism, and it is fitting that it should also provide a means for remedying the consequences of that.
